Andreas Vesalius, De Humani Corporis Fabrica, (Basel: Johan Oporinus, 1555), 221.
Drawing of a human figure. This was drawn by Andreas Vesalius, the sort of “successor” to da Vinci in human anatomical drawings. His drawings are very different from da Vinci’s, in that they are much more expressive and in general more human. He also provides a lot more details surrounding the subject, such as an entire city in the background. To Vesalius, the human body was not a machine but rather a real and actual subject that he needed to display accurately.
